Guys, I promised you more sports last night but I was a little out of it. I owe you one so here you have it: Your Afternoon Sports Wrap-Up with Ivette Herrera :)
Lets start off with yesterday’s Liverpool and Fulham match. Noreen Khan, host of the Drive Show on the BBC Asian Network - M-F 10am-1pm EST - absolutely loves her Liverpool FC and she doesn’t hide it from her Khan-daan! But Liverpool wasn’t as lucky. The USMNT midfielder Clint Dempsey brought Liverpool’s eight game winning streak to an end. In the 72nd minute Liverpool’s Jay Spearing was given a red card for a hard tackle on Moussa Dembele. It wasn’t long after that Dempsey scores his 37th goal giving Fulham the victory. This “made him the most prolific American scorer in England’s top division, surpassing the record he shared with former Fulham striker Brian McBride” :) Way to go Dempsey!!!
Although the team is in thirteenth place in the EPL, Dempsey still has the drive to help his team pull off victories. Fulham has had rough stretch tying their last six games gaining them only six points. It’s tough to have that stretch in such a competitive league like the EPL.
You can read the full article on the match at http://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/news?slug=ap-fulham-liverpool
I also want to bring to you attention another article on Dempsey so nicely written by Yahoo! Sports writer, Martin Rogers. If you’ve watched Dempsey play especially in last year’s World Cup and watched his growth in the EPL, this article captures Dempsey’s dedication to the sport and his work ethic wherever he is. http://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/news;_ylt=AooqB.v4LZ1t1gMHS.DpokYmw7YF?slug=ro-rogers_clint_dempsey_american_record_120511

Feels like I haven’t written in a while! Fear not! I have a quick round up in sports!
It was a fun-filled weekend in sports and I must say GOOD JOB to Chelsea FC for beating Newcastle United 3 – 0! However, come January the transfer window opens and famed Frenchman Nicolas Anelka is heading out. It also sounds like he already knows where he is going – could it be the expansion team in the MLS, the Montreal Impact? According to Yahoo! Sports head coach of the Impact, Jesse Marsch, spoke to Goal.com exclusively and said that the club held “very good discussions with the forward”.
I don’t like the sound of this! Talking to my father and watching Anelka play, he is a good asset to Chelsea and I would hate to see him leave especially to the expansion team!! If he was coming to NY maybe I would have a different opinion.
For those of you who missed EPL action I have your scores right here courtesy of Yahoo! Sports – also don’t forget to check out results of Sundays matches and today’s match Liverpool vs. Fulham at 3pm.
Closer to home, Jose Reyes will not be a Met anymore! The shortstop is heading to green pastures and warmer climate – the Florida Marlins. Read Jeff Passan’s article on this deal and more at Yahoo! Sports. It is pretty entertaining!!
Oh and my beloved Giants…do I need to say any more?
I’ll have more tonight, there is so much to cover in sports!
Big thanks to Yahoo! Sports for keeping me up to date with sports and having the best writers available!!
The NBA has come to a “tentative agreement” to end the lockout. Thank God! According to CBS News, the players and the league have come to a “hand shake” deal that ends the 148 day lockout. Both parties still have to tweak the deal but if all goes well we should have a game on December 25th.
After reading the article on Yahoo! Sports, it looks like they were able to reach a deal because the players accepted the 50/50 split of BRI and resolved other issues. It ‘s the 50/50 deal that has me a little uneasy because this deal was on the table before and the NBA players did not take it. I figure that maybe now all the other issues were talked through and are acceptable to the players, making there 50/50 deal more appealing. As the day progresses I am sure will get to know the exact details of the the 10 year deal and what it entails.
All in all I am happy that FINALLY we will have a basketball season! Still not a fan of David Stern. To read more about the end of the lockout go to http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-wojnarowski_nba_lockout_ends-112611 Let me know what you think :)
