Didier Drogba, the King of Chelsea?
Chelsea 1 - 0 Barcelona - Although the hosts played defensively, a rapid counter-attack finished by their iconic leading man, Didier Drogba, has lit the path to the Allianz Arena for the Champions League final.
Barcelona traveled to Stamford Bridge, a ground which has entertained exhilarating Champions League football in recent years between the two teams. Despite a last minute victory 3 years ago courtesy of an unforgettable Iniesta stunner, the defending champions weren’t able to replicate their magic in the final third of the field tonight. Lionel Messi endured a frustrating night and has still yet to score against Chelsea. It’s true that Barcelona were unlucky not to hit the back of the net, but credit must be awarded to a confident Chelsea who worked from the first to final minute to ensure an unexpected triumph - Abramovich could not hide his delight!
The man of the night was Didier Drogba, who has been a dominant star for ‘The Blues’ since joining in 2003 and presently has been the decisive figure in what may be his final season for the club. Despite a theatrical performance from an imperious player, Drogba worked tirelessly and scored his 155th club goal against the best club in the world. This strike may become historic as Chelsea now have the advantage to reach their second Champions League final in than 5 years, a grand accomplishment which the ‘Special One’ never achieved.
However, all shall be resolved next week at the Camp Nou. Which team do you think will be in Munich in May? Will Chelsea hold on? [posted by DV]

Sports, sports and more sports!

Feels like I haven’t written in a while! Fear not! I have a quick round up in sports!

It was a fun-filled weekend in sports and I must say GOOD JOB to Chelsea FC for beating Newcastle United 3 – 0! However, come January the transfer window opens and famed Frenchman Nicolas Anelka is heading out. It also sounds like he already knows where he is going – could it be the expansion team in the MLS, the Montreal Impact? According to Yahoo! Sports head coach of the Impact, Jesse Marsch, spoke to Goal.com exclusively and said that the club held “very good discussions with the forward”.

I don’t like the sound of this! Talking to my father and watching Anelka play, he is a good asset to Chelsea and I would hate to see him leave especially to the expansion team!! If he was coming to NY maybe I would have a different opinion.

Closer to home, Jose Reyes will not be a Met anymore! The shortstop is heading to green pastures and warmer climate – the Florida Marlins. Read Jeff Passan’s article on this deal and more at Yahoo! Sports. It is pretty entertaining!!
